Dell EMC The Source Podcast Episode 89: Introducing Dell EMC XtremIO X2

Dell EMC World 2017 included over a dozen major product announcements, and as always, Dell EMC The Source podcast is here to get the details.   This week we take a closer look at “Dell EMC XtremIO X2 All-Flash Array

Sure, XtremIO X2 is an “All-Flash Storage Array” but like the original, Flash is just the storage media. XtremIO and now X2 are all about software. Software that provided consistent performance and efficiency to address your VDI and large scale workload needs. XtremIO X2 delivers 3x the capacity, 25% more efficiency all at 1/3rd the price per GB.

I sat down with XtremIO CTO, Itzik Reich (@itzikr) to get the details. You can find more X2 details here Direct2DellEMC Next Gen All-Flash Blog and be sure to check out Itzik’s blog www.xtremio.me

Dell EMC The Source Podcast #87: New Media with Danny Cobb

Media impacts everything, from end user devices to enterprise storage platforms and everything in-between. Moore’s Law continues to drive the media evolution along with von Neumann’s Law or Memory Design, basically stating that the fastest memory will always be as close to the CPU as possible while memory size will increase, along with latency, but cost will be reduced. That theory is as true today as it was in the 1940s.

At Dell EMC World, I sat down with Danny Cobb (@Dcobbweb), Dell EMC Fellow and VP of Emerging Media, and we talked NVHMCI, NVMe, M.2, 14G, new form factors and the ultimate question, what’s next?   But I feel like every time I talk to Danny, it’s the same conclusion. From the original NVMHCI (Non-Volatile Memory Host Controller Interface Specification) created by Dell, Microsoft and Intel in 2008, NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Extension), NVMe represents the next step in that evolution. But like traditional Flash, it’s not NVMe that unlocks customer value, it’s the software and architecture.

Software Enables Media, from the Client to the Cloud.

EMC The Source Podcast Episode #56 - Flash Memory Summit 2016

The Flash Memory Summit is an annual gathering of “People Making Flash Products Happen”.   The conference was held in Santa Clara August 9-11, 2016.  EMC was a premium sponsor of the event, showcasing the latest in AL-FLASH product design and direction.   In addition, EMC was invited to participate in the General Keynote Sessions.

EMC Fellow, Vice President of Emerging Media and friend of EMC The Source Podcast, Dan Cobb (@dcobbweb), hosted the Keynote – “Flash Storage Meets Persistent Memory – The Modern Data Center Changes Forever!”

I was able to catch up with Dan as he headed into his keynote address.  That interview and the full content of the Keynote Session are this week’s EMC The Source Podcast.

XtremIO Truly Transformational, that’s been the heartbeat of the EMC XtremIO story since its launch over 2 years ago.  I asked the XtremIO CTO, Itzik Reich (@itzikr) to elaborate.  Itzik presented “Best Practices for Running Virtualized Workloads on All-Flash Arrays” at VMworld 2015.
